Why exactly is Dale Earnhardt, Jr. so popular with NASCAR fans?

The only year Dale Sr. won most popular driver was the year he was killed at Daytona. Many resented his agressive style of wrecking others rather than passing them, so I don’t think he was as popular as Junior.
